Cancer Risk in Women with Paunch

Mind that spare tyre around your waist, especially if you are a woman, as it could influence your risk of pancreatic cancer, according to a research.

It confirms that the risk of pancreatic cancer climbs in tandem with body mass index (IBM).

While a link between obesity and pancreatic cancer has been suggested, studies looking at the association have yielded mixed results. A research anaylsed data on 2,170 people with pancreatic cancer and 2,209 people without the disease. For all study subjects, there was a positive link betwen increasing BMI and increasing risk of pancreatic cancer.

When the researchers looked at weight categories, they found women who were overweight were 31 per cent increased risk of pancreatic cancer compared to normal weight women., while the risk for obese women was 61 per cent greater.

Having a large waist in relation to one’s hips also upped the risk, most strongly for women. The women with the biggest waist-to-hip ratio were at 87 per cent increased risk of pancreatic cancer. The findings strongly support the role of obesity in pancreatic cancer development.

Sugar Damage

Eating sugar and other sweeteners added to packaged food may add to the risk of heart disease by changing cholesterol levels and increasing blood fats, according to a study.

The research found out that those who consumed food with higher levels of sugar showed a 50 per cent to 200 per cent higher risk of having reduced levels of good cholesterol. Higher sugar intake also increased triglycerides, the blood fats that raise heart disease. People need to be aware of how much sugar they are consuming. It does make food taste better but it is a source of calories that does not provide any nutrition.

KFC Bunless Chicken Sandwich

A follower of my humble website who read my posting on McDonald’s healthy menu alerted me to the bun-less KFC Double Down Sandwich on the KFC menu over at US.

The bun-less sandwich from KFC might initially sound like a healthier choice (for those weight watchers who are super conscious about carbohydrates)…. but with a staggering 1,228 calories!!!  NO WAY ARE THOSE SANDWICHES HEALTHY! That’s thanks to the buns being replaced with two thick slices of fried chicken.

Anyway, did a quick search online and found the following news articles that found that the sandwich contains 1,228 calories rather than the  540 calories that KFC claimed.

Bad Habits Can Age You By 12 Years

One bad habit is bad enough, but combine four – smoking, excessive drinking, lack of exercise and poor diet – and it could age you by 12 years, according to a new research, which tracked almost 5,000 adults aged 18 to 44 for 20 years.

The risky behaviours were: smoking tobacco; downing more than three alcoholic drinks per day for men and more than two daily for women; getting less than two hours of physical activity per week; and eating fruit and vegetables fewer than three times a day.

These habits combined substantially increased the risk of death and made people who engaged in them seem 12 years older than people in the healthiest group.

The healthiest group included people who had never smoked and those who had quit; teetotallers, women who had fewer than two drinks daily and men who had fewer than three; those who got at least two hours of physical activity weekly; and those who ate fruit and vegetables at least three times daily.
